It's not long until the 2024 racing season begins and excitement continues to ramp up.

At the MSVR Season Launch Day on Friday last week, spectators were treated to their first glimpses of the fantastic 5/8 scale Legends Cars, ahead of their first season with MSVR.

In order to find out more about the championship, MSVR contacted Championship Owner Phil Cooper and asked him a few questions to give further insight into what we should expect from Legends Cars Championship.

Are you able to give us an introduction to Legends Cars?

Legends Cars are 5/8 scale versions of classic American Dodges and Chevys, powered by 1250cc Yamaha motorcycle engines. The racing is absolutely thrill-a-minute, often thrill-a-second, with constant overtaking each and every lap and fantastic ‘bump-drafting’ action. Never predictable, always entertaining, Legends Cars is unlike any other formula of racing out there – and we’re delighted to be rejoining MSVR for 2024 and beyond!

What should people expect from a Legends Cars race?

In short, the ultimate in race action! In Legends Cars we draw grids by ballot, not qualifying times, which means spectacular racing is guaranteed in every single outing. We have three races per day or ‘round’, two Heats and a Final. If a driver starts near the back in Heat One, they will begin near the front in Heat Two. For the Final, those who scored highest over the two Heats line up near the rear of the grid – promoting sensational overtaking.

How excited are you to again race at American Speedfest again this year?

We really can’t wait to be part of American Speedfest again, it’s one of the absolute highlights on the Legends Cars Championship calendar each year. The event is huge, tens of thousands of spectators, and the atmosphere around Brands Hatch is electric across both days. In Legends we always pride ourselves on delivering the friendliest paddock in UK motorsport, which is perfect for an event like American Speedfest where we can welcome so many fans young and old.

Do you have any special plans for your 30th Anniversary year?

It really is fantastic to be celebrating our 30th Anniversary this season, and we’re looking forward to having another incredible grid of quality and quantity. As well as being a landmark year for the championship, we will also be introducing the next generation Legends Car!

What have been your favourite moments from the past 30 years?

There really are so many to choose from, it’s difficult to say. The first ever Legends Cars race at Brands Hatch all those years ago is obviously a wonderful memory, as is the first Championship season. In more recent times, the race meeting at Brands in 2021 where we celebrated the life of our late competitor Gerard McCosh was very special indeed – and incredibly emotional. Of course, joining the BTCC package last year for three events really brought Legends Cars to the mainstream with action on ITV4 and we’re excited to be racing with the touring cars again this season.

What three words would best describe Legends Cars?

Excitement. Thrilling. Unique.

Is there anything you wished to add?

I’d just like to say a huge thank you to everyone who works so hard behind the scenes to make the Legends Cars Championship the huge success it continues to be, and to also thank the teams and drivers who continue to push the standard of racing ever higher. Equally, we feel very fortunate to have such a fantastic fanbase and we’re looking forward to seeing many of you at the tracks this season.

Thanks for taking the time Phil, we can't wait to have you with us this season!
