MSVR is delighted to partner with Fratelli Games and their gripping, motorsport-themed board game ‘Racing Line’ for the 2023 season.
Racing Line replicates all the thrills of racing on-track, straight to your home. Battle friends and family for World Championship glory, while competing with safety cars, red flags, punctures and more. Once the lights go out… anything can happen!
This is an especially exciting announcement for MSVR, because at various race meetings throughout this year we will be gifting one lucky marshal their very own copy of the game!
To find out more about ‘Racing Line’, we spoke with co-creator Jonathan Phillips:
What was the inspiration behind creating a motorsport-themed board game?
As a family we love games of any kind. Christmas ‘21 we were all together, playing games, and the idea just popped up. We’re big motorsport fans so there was an instant draw to create something we had an affinity for. We came up with the idea over a couple of days and set about embellishing it and testing it (and testing it and testing it). The more we played it, the more we realised we’d made something that would be of interest to people outside the family and here we are. We knew nothing about board games but we’re proud of what we’ve created.
What made you want to get involved with MSVR?
When MSVR got in touch with us about a partnership it was a bit of a surreal moment. MSVR is the heartbeat of motorsport in the UK. Without the hard work of everyone there, we wouldn’t have the opportunities to go racing that there are for people now. An association with MSV was a no-brainer and an honour. We love that the people who will get to enjoy Racing Line are the marshals because they make each event possible so this is a huge thank you to them too.
Are you able to give us a short summary of the objective of the game?
Racing Line is a Formula 1-inspired die-roll board game where the aim is to accumulate the most points across the duration of a championship. You’re dealt “Incident cards” to play at your discretion to boost your own chances of victory or hinder your opponents. The specially-designed track includes features such as an actual racing line to guarantee the fastest way round the track and DRS Zone for those big overtaking moves. The game has been designed to be accessible to non-motorsport fans as well so that households can enjoy the game together even if it’s not a house full of petrolheads (we did a load of testing on our family and partners who have absolutely no interest whatsoever in motorsport).
Who’s your favourite race driver of all time?
Seeing as there are four of us involved, there’s a real mixture of drivers from Lewis Hamilton and Ayrton Senna, to John Surtees and Fernando Alonso.
MSVR’s Race Operations Manager Simon Gnana-Pragasam commented:
“Racing Line is a fantastic game and we look forward to partnering with Fratelli Games this year. There is no group more enthusiastic than our beloved Orange Army and we’re delighted to be able to present a marshal with the game at various race meetings throughout the season, so that they can take a little piece of motorsport home with them!”
